Product Description
Our Wood Turning Hollowing Tool is made from 5/8's cold rolled steel and is offered in two configurations; one designed for the lathe running in forward rotation and one for the lathe rotating in reverse. Our Wood Turning Hollowing Tool is made with an outrigger to counteract rotational forces and comes with an adjustable thickness gauge to give a visual representation of wall thickness. In addition to an ergonomic and user friendly design, the hollowing tool comes with an adjustable M42 HSS scraper. The cutter is easily removable for sharpening and pivots to reach under moderately wide hollow form shoulders. The D-Way Hollowing Tool allows for a more comfortable position at the lathe.
Frequently asked question...Why do some folks like turning in reverse? Answer - It's a matter of personal preference. Some people find reverse more natural. If you own a swan neck tool or any tool that you can reverse the cutter, you could experiment with that. That would give you some feel for it. Your elbow tends to be closer to the body in reverse. Try standing in from of your lathe and go through the motions you would use to hollow. Whichever way feels better is your answer. - Jimmie

I always worry when I buy tools that you have seen the expert use. Is it really as easy as that? I can honestly say that this works beautifully , it is easy to use and the cut was very smooth. Laser set ups look so cumbersome and this is so straight forward. Great tool.

ingenious both with the outrigger and the spring depth gauge. It was set up and ready to go except the spring has an inner part that I didn't find right away and tried drilling out the receiving hole to get the spring to fit. once I realized there was an inner part to the spring, it became much easier. Works perfectly, I've done 2 bowls so far and am very pleased.

I've bought other hollowing tools but none worked like this one. Didn't want to spend a lot on some super large capture system and
I have no urge to make a deep vase so this tool fit me perfectly. Then to beat that it works great!

I often turn timber with reverse rotation,from end grain.
This scraper has grips and elbow pads, which can be done safely and stably.

I wish i could tell everyone who turns wood just how great Daves hollower is. Just watch his video, follow his instruction, and you will be producing awesome hollow forms in no time flat. Just a really great product and great service!

I watched Daves YouTube videos a lot before purchasing this tool. I like it a lot. it not aggressive unlike the carbide tools. I only wish it came in a larger size. Hey Dave, how about one that can do 12" or 16" vessels?
