Innovation that others follow...
The quest for well-designed wood turning tools that make turning easier is the driving force behind D-Way Tools. D-Way Tools were designed by a world-class turner for turners, in the belief that good tools make the craft easier and more enjoyable.
D-Way wood turning tools are machined from premium M-42 cobalt high speed steel. M-42 is chosen for its superior wear resistance and edge holding qualities compared to the more commonly used M-2 steel. Heat treating is accomplished with nitrogen in a vacuum chamber to prevent contamination. The steel is then triple tempered to achieve a hardness of 64 – 66 HRC, yielding a hard (but not too hard) material. The result is an very durable edge that retains its sharpness for a long period of time. All flutes are individually inspected and hand polished to remove machine marks. This extra step assures the sharpest cutting edge and smooth removal of shavings. All D-Way tools are shipped sharpened.
What they’re saying about D-Way Tools...
“My first purchase of the D-Way 3/8" bowl gouge convinced me that the steel that Dave uses is superior to all others I have tried. It takes a sharp edge and keeps its sharpness much better than any others on the market… They are simply the best!” Jim Christiansen
“I have tried many gouges, but this tool enters the wood like no other gouge I’ve used. It grinds easily, takes a great edge, and holds that edge longer than any other of my gouges. Especially with difficult woods like Douglas fir, this tool is my secret weapon.” Bill Luce
“...Dave’s tools stay sharper longer and cut better than any I have ever used...If the tool isn’t sharp...the wood tears out during your sweep around the shape…Thanks Dave for making these tools.” Ron Gerton
“I just wanted to let you know that the 5/8" bowl gouge is just wonderful. The finish of your tools is superb, and they really hold an edge. Thanks for another great tool.” Roger Ellis
“…I bought a 3/8" and 1/2" D-Way bowl gouge from Dave…They are not just good gouges they are great gouges and I recommend them to the novice or advanced turner.” Dan Burleson
“AWESOME tools!!! Absolutely the best. The bowl gouge has made getting through the death curve of a bowl an accomplish-able task for me now…” Steve & Trudy Webb
