 Product Description

14.25" Tool Rest Top Bar is used for upgrading your existing Powermatic or other cast iron or steel tool rest. The benefit is a smooth surface that will eliminate the need for filing, polishing, or waxing - it will not dent or ding like your existing tool rest.

  • M-42 heat treated rod
  • Rockwell hardness 65-66
  • approximately 3/8" in diameter
  • Can request this rod be cut into a custom size (Select CUSTOM LENGTH from drop down) - remainder will also being shipped.

Note: You can also cut them to custom lengths in your own shop using an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel. Do NOT use any saw blades - you will ruin them.

These have been tested over the last few years for performance and reliability in adhesion. When properly applied using long-acting JB weld, we have had no reported failures. Watch the installation video to see how easy it is to make this modification. Installation VIDEO Link

    I added top bar to 6” cast steel rest a year ago and haven’t stoned it yet, a quick wipe with scotch bright to remove sap is all that is needed. I added a top bar to a 14” harden tool steel rest last month because your bar is harder and my tools slide smoother over your bar than any other rest I have used. I showed the rests at my turning club meeting and hope other members will enjoy the experience I have had with your products.

    Great solution for cast iron tool rests. Just follow Jimmie's directions (in the Youtube video ... https://youtu.be/pMTody-4daQ ) and you will be fine!

    This was just what I was looking for...and didn't even know it. I was tired of filing and sanding the top edge of my tool rest. The tool rest's soft metal would cause the tools to catch. I was looking for a new tool rest to purchase when I noticed this advertisement for a top bar that would attach to my tool rest. I merely followed the instruction video and my tool rest now has a new working surface. The tools do not catch as they used to. The new bar is straight and hard. It works perfectly well. I would recommend it to anyone with a softer metal tool rest.

    Easy to install and is holding tight to the original tool rest. No dings, My gouges slide smoothly across the bar now. No more filing.

    I purchased both the 6" & 14" tool rest bars, which were the answer to my PowerMatic lathe's terrible tool rest surface. They were simple to install and look and work great (installation video very helpful).
