All our 1/2" Spindle Gouge flutes are individually inspected and hand polished to remove all machine marks. This extra step assures the sharpest cutting edge possible. They are shipped sharp.
We use the 1/2" Spindle Detail Gouge on spindle work for detail. When ground with a steep angle it will get into tighter places. Suggest using either the 8" or 12" handle for spindle work.

Very nice finish holds a good sharp edge for quite a while and shipping is very fast.

Received the 1/2 detail gouge, made my ash handle and went right to the lathe, impressed at how well and long it holds a cutting edge, will most definitely be back for future tooling

The finish is superb, the steel is fine grain that takes an edge very easily and lasts for ages. It cuts beautifully. Would not buy any other make now.

The reason I purchased these tools was because I am planning a couple of videos on lidded boxes. One goal is to learn the Richard Raffen 'back hollowing' cut. This also involves learning how to drill with the spindle detail gouges, which is a new skill for me. I am learning. Long way to go. Primary thing to learn is proper bevel angle and nose profile. I am more used to the 40/40 grind...... Long way to go yet...

This is my first purchase of an "exotic steel" tool and I can only kick myself in the butt for holding off for so long. I ordered this late Aug 11 and it was at my door Aug 14. Made own handle and been sending perfect shavings since the first cut. BEWARE, when D-Way says its tools are SHARP, believe it. Fresh out of the gate it was a true joy to use without any touch up. I'll be upgrading my other tools ONLY with D-way.
Don't wait, pull the trigger on a super sharp, well made American tool.

Hands down this cuts thru like butter. Smooth and efficient. Along with my other D-WAY TURNING TOOLS.
I’m very happy and please with the profits. Great job on these and I will be adding more to my collection. They come super sharp and when needed to slice up it’s an easy go and back at it.
Thank you

I've used D-Way Tools for a while after a friend of mine recommended them and absolutely love everything about them! Super high quality steel that holds and edge and stays sharp longer than any of my other tools in the shop. Highly recommend!

I already had 3 spindle gouges and I really liked one of them and used it all the time, however after getting this gouge from D-Way I gave those three away. I have been using this gouge for a couple of months before writing this review and there is no comparison to my other tools. Holds an edge for a long time - very high quality, just like the other D-Way tools I have.
also thanks to Jimmy for the great service

Like all of the other Dway tools I have bought this one is top knotch. Dway tools have replaced all of the "beginner" tools I bought when I first got started.

I bought a Jet mini lathe with a dozen assorted tools. Some are OK most are not. I have since bought a 14' lathe and decided to upgrade my tools with only individual high quality tools as I need them. I now have two of Dave's 1/2' bowl gouges (fingernail and regular grind), a negative rake scraper, and now the 1/2' spindle gouge. I have one handle with a 5/8" / 1/2' insert and the quick release knob. So far I have not had to use a handle with the scraper as it is so well balanced, though I will make a dedicated handle for it eventually. I have also made a number of carbide tipped tools $15 each and I use them for roughing out to save the D-way tools. But WOW! What a difference when I finish off with the D-way. They are superb and now that I have the knack of re-sharpening them they cut great for a long time
