What's the best roughing gouge to use for common woodturning projects? We recommend you consider D-Way Tools.

Our Medium Wood Turning Roughing Gouge is milled from 1 inch solid round bar in M42 cobalt HSS. It has a 3/4 inch wide flute and measures 1" round x 8-1/4" long, with a 5/8” shank. Fits D-Way 5/8” receiver handles. All of our roughing gouges feature symmetrical flutes and the sidewall is the same thickness throughout the entire flute length. This gives you smooth even cuts, and no matter how you roll the tool, your cut is always on the same plane. Shipped sharpened and ready to use.

This tool is for the person who wants something larger than our small gouge, but doesn't need our monster large tool. As with all of our gouges, it has a meticulously hand polished flute and comes "wicked sharp". You can still hog a lot of wood with this tool.~ JIMMIE

    This tools is heavy duty and razor sharp and it holds its edge. The heat treatment is great. I highly recommend this tool.

    I'm more of a hobbyist turner, however I'm setting my sites on larger timber to make some specialized pieces for the toughest critic of any hobbyist woodworker...my spouse.
    Having this particular gouge, I have a tool that will not only bear the test of time, what with being made of excellent steel, but it's ability to take a sharpening from a less than perfect hand, and still deliver quality cuts and designs. This stout gouge meets my needs, and exceeds my expectations.
