Our Large Wood Turning Roughing Gouge is milled from 1.25" solid round bar M42 cobalt HSS with a 5/8” shank. Fits D-Way 5/8” receiver handles. It has a full 1 inch wide flute and measures 1-1/4" round x 7-1/4" long. All of our roughing gouges feature symmetrical flutes. The sidewall is the same thickness throughout the entire length of the flute. This gives you smooth even cuts, and no matter how you roll the tool - your cut is always on the same plane. Shipped sharpened and ready to use.

This tool is a beast - it is the largest gouge we make and perfect for the person who wants the biggest, baddest roughing gouge out there. The wider flute also leaves less tool marks. ~ JIMMIE

  1. One tough gouge

    Recently (December 2024) purchased this large roughing gouge and turned a long ash handle for it. The 5/8" round tang made it easy to fit and epoxy to my purpose made handle. The gouge body is relatively short but very stout and heavy. As advertised it is delivered honed and ready to use. Using it is a delight. Brings square spindles to round very quickly as expected with minimal tool marks. Handles vibration very well. The finish polish on the gouge is perfect. This is a great tool well worth the money.

    Compared to the Crown 1.5" RG I broke, this thing is a BEAST. Pair it with a nice heavy handle and your have yourself a tool that is very comfortable that will remove a lot of material in a hurry! Don't hesitate to buy this one!

    I like the larger version as I felt that in some woods the smaller tool was not big enough to handle the extra wood.. "Great addition to a fine line of tools"
