  1. Roughing gouge

Posted by John D from NH on Feb 8th 2019

Bought this gouge to use as a rougher on my 10" Jet. Unwrapped it, smiled, and immediately stuck it in an 8" handle, chucked up a length of 2 x 2 cocobolo and made some test cuts... It's well balanced, is small enough to use for all but the finishing details, cuts like butta and feels real good in the hand. Will put it in a 12" handle and use it on my 20" lathe too. It's a well engineered versatile tool that will get lots of use and another great D-Way tool for my collection. Highly recommend giving this bad as little tool a try.

  2. Best turning tool I own

Posted by Phillip burns on Jun 5th 2018

This thingvcame fantastically sharp right out of the box. Good solid steel that performs as great as it looks. I used this to make a crush grind mill and used it from the initial roughing cut to the final finish cut. Hold this tool at s 45 deg angle and it slices the wood to a beautiful smooth finish. The only problem now is that i’m going to have to budget in more of Dave’s tools over the next few months!

  3. Roughing gouge of the future.

Posted by Chico Winterton on Apr 28th 2018

A fantastic roughing gouge. It may look a little on the small side when compared to many out there but it is the epitome of efficiency itself, cuts perfectly and without the reduced tang all others which in itself is a huge strength. Most roughing gouges are bulky bits of kit, this is smaller, stronger and a joy in every way I can think of for a roughing gouge. The fact that it is M42 and fits so solidly into the handles is just extra icing on the cake.

  4. What a great tool

  5. Can't beat Dave's tools.

Let me be succinct...Dave's tools are the best on the market.

  6. It works as a finishing tool!

Posted by Mike Porter on Apr 19th 2017

At the recent Oregon Symposium I watched two demo turners use their SRG like a finishing tool. I asked Dave at the D-Way booth about this and he did a demo. I bought one right then. At home I've now made about 30 coffee scoops for sale and I use the SRG to get the handles ready for sanding. Only use the skew or Dave's detail gouge for a few touches then it's done. Being narrower than my large Sorby, SRG, D-Way's tool can be used in this way.

I have been very satisfied with all of the D-Way tools and own almost every one that Dave makes. The are all very well made and hold an edge for a long time. I am very happy with this roughing gouge and it is my go to tool for roughing spindle work.

  9. Back Into Woodturning

Posted by Dan Day on Jan 10th 2017

Just getting back into wood turning after 40 years and needed new tools. After hours of research and some wasted money I settled on D-Way. These are awesome tools. Thanks Dave for the great service.

  10. The tine will not snap

Posted by John Parkes on Sep 19th 2016

A new roughing gouge was needed after the flat tine snapped on my old Sorby gouge. The D-Way 1/2 inch round bar into the handle is never going to snap. The D-Way performance is excellent right out of the box.
