3/8" Bowl Gouge - Fingernail Grind made with M42-HSS. Sold unhandled.
All our flutes are individually inspected and hand polished to remove all machine marks. This extra step assures the sharpest cutting edge possible. The Fingernail Grind bowl gouge is the go-to tool for roughing out - especially bowls, hollow forms, and platters - smaller pieces smaller gouge, larger pieces larger gouge. It is also very useful when you roll it on the side and used as a sheer scraper. Excellent for removing small tool marks and finessing long curves. They are shipped sharp.
- We use the American method of measurement for the stated size - diameter of the tool, not flute size.
- Recommend either the 8" or 12" handle. You now have a choice of handle receiver sizes: 1/2" receiver with a 1/2" to 3/8" reducer bushing for handle versatility OR 3/8" receiver for dedicated use with 3/8"/.390 sized tools
Tool bevel grinds are all about personal preference. We try to be in the middle range of grinds to keep the majority of people happy. Tool grinds are very easy to change and we feel people shouldn't be afraid to experiment with bevel angles. ~ Jimmie

Another excellent product from D-Way

Unwrapped the tool made the mistake for running finger across it and found out that it really was delivered sharp and ready to use. You've gotta love that. Started turning with it and really didn't want to put it down. Everything from the handle to the bushing to the gouge itself was unbelievably nice to work with and it all fit together so well. Great to see that we really can get great made products in America.

Shipping and delivery was excellent and I was over impressed with the quality of the product purchased. I will be buying all of my tools from D-WAY in the future, this will be my recommendation for anyone new to the craft.

The tools are so good that I bought almost all of them!!! I also bought the CBN grinding wheels which makes sharpening a breeze. I highly recommend any tool that you buy from Dave. Oh yea also bought the tool rests from Brian. Thanks Dave and Brian!

Picked this tool up based on 1/2" gouge purchase. Just like big brother this tool is a dream to work with. Holds edge and handles effortlessly. Again, like my prior purchase this gouge is now a 1st. line tool for me. Like it to the point that I intend to complete the D-way bowl gouge lineup.

I was a little scared of this tool at first, but getting the hang of it, and it is awesome. I'm no expert turner, but I can appreciate quality tools, and just holding this thing gives me confidence - as does watching Dave's videos. Heck even the promo text, specifically about using the bottom feeder bowl gouges for exterior finishing cuts. I tried it, and am now back here to replace my old stub-nose bowl gouge. I expect I'll be replacing most of my gouges etc with D-Way tools - Dave, thank you!
