Large Woodturners Skew - 1-5/16" x 3/8" x 9" with a 5/8" Tang. M42 cobalt HSS.
We offer three additional sizes: 1” x 5/16” x 9" with a tang that fits a 5/8” handle receiver; 3/4” x 9/32” x 9" with a tang that fits a 1/2” receiver; and 1/2” by 1/4" x 8” with a tang that fits a 1/2” receiver. All are radiused on the heel-edge of the shank to slide easily across the tool rest. The long point edge is machined flat. The short point edge has a machine radius to facilitate rolling beads. All sharp edges on the length of the shank have been softened. The skews bevels have been pre-sharpened and polished to a mirror finish, ready to make shavings.
Great tool for roughing out spindle work and beautiful clean cuts.

I am very pleased with this skew. It is one of the larger skews I've found on the market. I was very impressed with the fact that it came ready to use. It was very ground very well and was honed sharp as a razor. This tool holds an edge a very long time. It is an excellent choice for large spindles. I made my own handle from walnut.

I've had my Stubby lathe for 25 years, but between work, life and surgeries, I'm really an inexperienced turner who has hardly turned the lathe on in 10 years. Now that I'm semi-retired, it's time to get back into it. After watching an Alan Lacer video on the skew, I figured it was time to buy a good skew and learn how to use it. This is my first D-Way product, and it did not disappoint - not at all. Quality is superb! Shipping was fast, and my first experience with it was awesome!

I've been a hobby turner for about 10 years and have a background in nuclear power engineering and management with a degree in mechanical engineering. Over the years I have experimented with various tool manufacturers and their steels, including M2, M4, A10, and now M42. Frankly, I'm not sure I can tell a difference in the edge holding ability of the better steels, M2 excluded. What I do notice, however, is the quality of the tool manufacturing and here D-Way is in a league of their own. This large skew, for instance, is something of a work of art, functional and beautiful at the same time. It has a "heft" you will notice and the contoured edge on the heel side is perfectly done so that the tool rolls beautifully. Even the edges on the toe side are radiused ... I hate sharp edges on tools or on my work. The tool is polished so that it looks and feels great. I made a 16" handle from dogwood with a copper ferrule for it and it is, again, beautiful to look at and a joy to use. On top of that, the price is competitive with tools that aren't half the quality. I'm impressed and I'm not often so. I wish I had started with D-Way tools but now I know. Buy D-Way, get the best. .

I've had Dave's smaller skew for a while and love it so I ordered the large skew, it is a beast but works every bit as well as the smaller one. Comes razor sharp and stays that way for a long time. I am amazed how clean a cut this skew and it's little brother make, I think the curve on the skew angle makes it so much easier to handle

Razor sharp when received. As Dave said in one of his videos, "I sharpen them before I send them so they will at least be sharp once." :-) A very impressive bit of kit.

Dave, your large skew is awesome. It does what you said in your video. Planing and v-cuts are done easily. I haven't graduated to making beads with it yet. I like the detail gouge for that. Thanks for your tools. You make a top drawer product.

This skew is the best I have ever had. It holds it edge for a very long time with very clean cuts. I have many D-way tools and find them to be the best money can buy. All the tools are made with the best materials and hardened correctly to give the maximum performance. A lot of cutting with very little sharpening required. Any tools I purchase today come from D-way tools.

Love it. I bought the large screw and love it's heft and feel. It's sturdy and heavy enough for big jobs, and I love the fact that it fits into my existing handle.
